Things to consider

when purchasing a deer blind

With 68 years of experience hunting whitetail deer, I have been a guide for over 38 yrs in North America and Canada.  On the average I hunted  over 100 days out of the year for whitetail deer.  I hunt in a lot of different states.  I hunted out of many blinds that are on the market, I should have more knowledge than the average hunter.

  1. Pricing – When purchasing a blind one of the first things to consider is the pricing. I offer wholesale prices to all of my customers.  I have very little overhead.  My wife is my secretary, my builders are Amish. On an average the wholesale price is $1,000.00 less than retail price.   The reason is I don’t have to pay a dealer commission for selling my blinds.
  1. Manufacturing – All of our blinds are custom built. We will build you any blind of your choice.  The blinds that most people purchase are a one man 4’x 5’ blind.  Also, a 2 man blind is 5-1/2’ x 5-1/2 ‘, and the 3 man blind is 7’x 7’ blind.  If you purchase a square blind you will have approx.  18% square footage over a round blind or an octagon blind.  Our blinds are painted with an oak bark color to blend in with the surroundings.
  1. Material – Consider what building materials are used. We use LP smart siding which has a 50 yr. Warranty. We also use 2”x 2” and 2” x 3” in our exterior walls.
  1. Warranty – Always ask for a warranty on your roof. This is usually the first thing to go bad.  Our roofs are built with plywood covered with aluminum.  Aluminum will last forever.  The plywood sheeting will cut down on the noise on the aluminum when it rains.  My warranty is in every situation we will replace the roof free.
  1. Windows – the window style is the most important decision you will make. We have the widest window on the market which 5 ft. wide.  There is no blind spots between the windows.   The only blind spots is 3” in each corner.  We are the only mfg. that use a ¼” thick tinted plexiglass.  You have a choice  of 12”,16” or 24”  high windows.  We also have an archery window that is 32” high.  For rifle and crossbow hunters, I would recommend a window no higher than 16”.  The reason is to keep the blind as dark as possible inside. We offer windows that slide up and down, an also windows that slide sideways.  I recommend the windows that slide sideways they are noise free, and you will show no movement when opening them.  You can also remove them within seconds and have a 5 ft. wide area where you can swing your weapons. We have 4” water table over the window to keep the snow and freezing rain off of your window sill, without this feature most every window will freeze that you can’t open the window.
  1. Options – We offer black curtains to keep your blind darker inside. Also, we have aluminum shooting table covered with carpet 10” wide by 4 ft. long, this table will fold down when not in use.  This is a feature that long range shooters prefer. Also wear black clothing not camouflage.
  1. Tower Stand – Almost all tower stands are made with treated lumber or steel materials. Our stands are built with aluminum and never rust and will last a lifetime.  They are powder coated with the color oak bark to match in with the surroundings.  We have stairs with steps and a hand rail, not a ladder.  The stand weighs only 89 lbs.

You will see more deer than ever hunting from a blind. The reason is you don’t have to contend with the way the wind is blowing.  Your scent will be locked in your blind.  When the tinted windows are closed they will never see your movement.  The noise is also blocked.  You can talk on your phones, or your friend sitting next to you. I never had a deer snort at me for the last four years, or have a deer looking up at me in the blind.  The deer never see me going into my blind or coming out of blind.   When I walk in they will run off and when I come out at night if I see any deer in the area, I will tap lightly on my walls, they don’t recognize where the noise is coming from, they will walk away and not run, sometimes it will take several taps before they walk away.
